Foliora (free)#

Foliora has no analytics, no licence check, no update ping and no remote scripts, fonts or images. It sets no cookies.

Stored on your site#

  • Settings — one option, foliora_settings.
  • Saved embeds — a private post type, foliora_embed.
  • PDF data — meta on PDF attachments: extracted text, page count, indexed flag, accessibility flag, thumbnail ID; plus a search index on posts that embed PDFs.
  • Thumbnails — PNG images in the Media Library.
  • Admin notice state — user meta when an administrator dismisses the welcome notice, and a short-lived transient after activation.

Stored in the visitor's browser#

  • foliora:page:<file URL> — last page read (for resume).
  • foliora_theme — chosen reading theme.

When the visitor's browser contacts another site#

  • Clicking a share link (X, Facebook, LinkedIn, WhatsApp).
  • Clicking the optional “Powered by Foliora” credit.
  • Viewing a PDF hosted on another domain — that host receives the visitor's IP address.

Foliora Pro#

  • Analytics use no cookies. Logged-out readers are counted with a hash of IP, browser and a salt that changes daily; logged-in readers by account. Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control are respected by default; bots and administrators are not counted. Data older than the retention period (default 365 days) is purged.
  • Leads are kept until you delete them and are included in WordPress's personal data export and erase tools.
  • Protected link views keep the last 50 views with an anonymised IP.
  • Reading progress and bookmarks of logged-in readers are stored in user meta (foliora_reading_progress, foliora_bookmarks).
  • Video hotspots load YouTube (youtube-nocookie.com) or Vimeo only when clicked; those services then receive the visitor's IP.
  • GA4 events are sent only if you enable them and Google Analytics or Tag Manager is already on the page.

Uninstall#

Deleting Foliora removes its settings, saved embeds, Foliora post and user meta, the transient and the generated thumbnails — your PDFs stay. Deleting Foliora Pro moves protected files back and removes its tables, links and settings; reading progress and bookmarks are kept.
