Interactive hotspots
Draw clickable areas on PDF pages: open a link, jump to a page, play a video or audio clip, or show a note.
On this page
Add hotspots#
- Open Foliora → Hotspots and choose Add hotspots to a PDF.
- Turn on Draw and drag a box over the page. Use the viewer's arrows to change page.
- Click a box to edit it: choose the type and fill in the details.
- Save. The hotspots appear wherever the PDF is embedded.
Hotspot types#
| Type | Settings | What the reader gets |
|---|---|---|
| Link | URL, open in a new tab | Opens the address. Clicks are counted in analytics. |
| Page | Target page | Jumps to that page. |
| Video | YouTube, Vimeo or MP4 URL | Plays in a popup. YouTube loads from youtube-nocookie.com, Vimeo from player.vimeo.com — only when clicked. |
| Audio | MP3 (or other audio) URL | Plays the clip. |
| Note | Text | Shows the note. |
Every hotspot has a Label, used as its tooltip and by screen readers.
Good to know#
- Positions are stored in percent of the page, so hotspots follow zoom and every view mode, including the flipbook.
- Hotspots are hidden while a page is rotated.
- Visibility: Pro Settings → Reader → Hotspots — show a soft outline so readers can find them, or reveal them only on hover.
- Hotspots are saved on the PDF itself (
_foliora_pro_hotspots), so they travel with the file.
Hotspots work on PDFs. EPUB text reflows, so it has no fixed pages to draw on.
