Docs & Features: your PDFs at a glance
See every PDF with its preview, search-index and accessibility status, and let Foliora prepare thumbnails and searchable text.
Open Foliora → Docs & Features. The Documents tab lists every PDF in your Media Library.
What each row shows#
| Column / badge | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Preview | First-page thumbnail. |
| Indexed | Text was extracted; WordPress search can find words in this PDF. |
| No text | No selectable text was found — usually a scanned image PDF — so it cannot be searched. |
| Tagged | The PDF has accessibility tags; screen readers can follow its structure. |
| Untagged | No accessibility tags. Export a tagged PDF from Word, InDesign or Acrobat. |
| Copy shortcode | Copies a ready [foliora file="…"]. |
Preparing documents#
The first time you open this screen, Foliora goes through your PDFs in your browser with the bundled PDF.js and, for each one:
- Draws the first page and saves it as a PNG thumbnail in the Media Library (attached to the PDF).
- Extracts the text for site search (if Site search is on).
- Reads whether the PDF is tagged for accessibility (if the Accessibility tags check is on).
Keep the screen open until it finishes. Already prepared files are skipped next time; new uploads are prepared on your next visit.
Nothing is uploaded to an outside service. Your browser does the work, then saves the result on your own site.
Re-index from the command line#
On large sites use WP-CLI: wp foliora status shows how many PDFs have thumbnails, text and accessibility data; wp foliora reindex rebuilds the search index of posts that embed PDFs. See WP-CLI.
